A bus carrying senior pilgrims from Sector 70, Mohali, departed for a religious and historical pilgrimage on 7 August 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme. The initiative provides elderly residents with an opportunity to visit important religious and historical sites while receiving travel, accommodation, and food facilities during the journey.
The pilgrims will visit Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum during their journey. The destinations combine important religious sites with places associated with Punjab’s cultural and historical heritage.
The pilgrimage scheme is aimed at making religious travel accessible to senior citizens, particularly those who may otherwise find it difficult to arrange and finance such journeys independently. Under the programme, the government provides the necessary travel arrangements along with accommodation and meals for the participating pilgrims.
The departure from Sector 70 was marked by enthusiasm among the senior citizens and local residents who gathered to see the pilgrims off. The initiative also provides an opportunity for elderly residents to travel together and visit some of the most significant spiritual and historical destinations in Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that facilitating pilgrimage journeys for senior citizens is an important part of people-oriented welfare initiatives. He said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme enables elderly residents to undertake religious journeys with greater convenience and without having to bear the major expenses associated with travel and accommodation.
He wished all the pilgrims a safe and spiritually fulfilling journey and expressed hope that they would return with memorable experiences from their visit to the religious and historical sites. The pilgrimage bus departed from Sector 70 with the participating senior citizens, with the arrangements for their journey, accommodation and meals being provided under the scheme.
