Two buses carrying senior pilgrims from Mataur village in the Mohali constituency departed for a religious and historical journey on 7 August 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme. The departure witnessed enthusiasm among the elderly pilgrims and local residents who gathered to see them off.
The pilgrimage will take the senior citizens to several important religious and historical destinations in Amritsar, including Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum. The journey will give the pilgrims an opportunity to pay their respects at important religious sites while also visiting places that hold significance in Punjab’s cultural and historical heritage.
The Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme aims to make pilgrimage accessible to senior citizens by providing organised travel facilities. According to the programme arrangements, the participating pilgrims will receive accommodation and meals during the journey, allowing them to undertake the pilgrimage without having to make separate arrangements for these essential requirements.
The departure from Mataur was marked by a positive atmosphere, with the elderly pilgrims expressing enthusiasm about the journey. Family members, local residents, and others gathered to extend their best wishes for a safe and comfortable pilgrimage.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme is an important welfare initiative for senior citizens, enabling them to visit revered religious destinations with organised facilities. He said that providing such opportunities to elderly residents reflects the importance of ensuring their dignity, comfort, and well-being.
He wished all the pilgrims a safe and peaceful journey and expressed hope that they would return with cherished memories from their visit to the religious and historical sites.
The two buses departed from Mataur village with the pilgrims, with the necessary arrangements for travel, accommodation, and meals being provided under the pilgrimage programme.
