Mohali: Election Commission of India-appointed Roll Observer Mohammad Tayyab reviewed the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls in Mohali and Kharar, with a focus on voter registrations, corrections, shifting of voters and the disposal of claims and objections.
Tayyab, a 2007-batch IAS officer appointed as Roll Observer for the SIR exercise, visited several polling stations in the district on Sunday to assess the work being carried out at the ground level. He interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) as well as citizens and reviewed the facilities available for voter-related services.
During his visit, Tayyab inspected the polling station at Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Sohana under the Mohali Assembly constituency. He also visited Government Elementary School at Mundi Kharar and Government High School at Desumajra in the Kharar Assembly constituency.
The review covered the registration of new voters, correction of details in electoral rolls and requests related to shifting of voters from one address to another. Officials were also asked to ensure that eligible citizens receive proper assistance during the revision process.
Tayyab urged eligible residents to make use of the prescribed forms within the given deadline. Form 6 can be used by eligible citizens seeking inclusion in the electoral roll, while Form 6A is meant for eligible overseas Indian voters. Form 8 is used for corrections in voter details and changes of address.
The deadline for filing claims and objections under the current phase of SIR-2026 is September 12, 2026. Citizens have been advised not to wait until the final days if they need to add their names, correct information or raise an objection regarding an electoral roll entry.
Tayyab also held a meeting with Mohali Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Komal Mittal to review the progress of claims and objections. The discussion included the handling of notices and public hearings that form part of the ongoing revision process.
Later, the Roll Observer met representatives and Booth Level Agents of recognised political parties at the District Administrative Complex. Feedback from political parties was sought regarding the ongoing revision and voter services.
Special camps were also organised at polling booths across the district on Sunday. Booth Level Officers remained available during the camps to help residents with voter registration, corrections and other electoral roll-related matters.
The SIR-2026 exercise is aimed at making electoral rolls more accurate and ensuring that eligible citizens are included. The process also provides an opportunity for voters to correct errors in their details and raise objections where necessary.
The Mohali administration has appealed to residents aged 18 and above who are eligible to vote but whose names are not currently included in the electoral roll to complete the registration process within the prescribed period. Existing voters have also been encouraged to verify their names and personal details in the draft electoral roll.
The current claims and objections period will continue until September 12. After this, the disposal of claims and objections is scheduled to continue until October 8.
The final electoral roll for the exercise is scheduled to be published on October 12, 2026.
For voters who need assistance, the Election Commission’s voter services and helpline facilities remain available. Residents can also approach the concerned Booth Level Officer or election office for help with the required forms and procedures. The latest review in Mohali comes at an important stage of SIR-2026, as the administration moves towards completing the claims and objections process before finalising the revised electoral rolls.
