Kulwant Singh criticized the decision to remove Punjabi from the list of mandatory subjects in Sainik Schools in Punjab, stating that the move reflects disregard toward Punjab’s language, culture, and identity.
Reacting to the development, Kulwant Singh said that Punjabi is deeply connected to the heritage and emotional identity of the people of Punjab, and any attempt to weaken the importance of the mother tongue is unacceptable. He stated that replacing Punjabi with another language in compulsory education goes against the cultural values and linguistic roots of the state.
He clarified that the Aam Aadmi Party is not opposed to any language, but strongly believes that children should remain connected to their mother tongue and cultural heritage. He added that Punjabi language and Punjabi identity must be protected and promoted in educational institutions across the state. Kulwant Singh also emphasized that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann remains committed to safeguarding the interests of Punjab, Punjabi language, and Punjabi culture
