Senior citizens from Sector 69, SAS Nagar Mohali, embarked on a spiritual journey on 20 July 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, an initiative of the Punjab Government aimed at enabling elderly citizens to visit prominent religious and historical places with complete travel support. MLA Kulwant Singh extended his best wishes to the pilgrims before the bus departed, wishing them a safe, comfortable, and spiritually fulfilling journey.
The Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme has been launched to ensure that senior citizens, many of whom may not have the means to undertake such pilgrimages independently, are able to visit revered destinations with dignity and convenience. Under the scheme, the Punjab Government provides transportation, accommodation, meals, and other essential arrangements, allowing elderly pilgrims to focus entirely on their spiritual experience.
During the pilgrimage, the devotees will visit Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum in Amritsar. These destinations hold deep religious, cultural, and historical significance and offer pilgrims an opportunity to seek blessings while gaining a greater appreciation of Punjab’s rich spiritual and national heritage.
Before the departure, MLA Kulwant Singh interacted with the senior citizens and their family members, encouraging them to enjoy the journey and make the most of the opportunity provided through the government scheme. He noted that ensuring the comfort, safety, and well-being of elderly citizens remains an important priority, and initiatives such as the Tirath Yatra Scheme reflect the government’s commitment to honouring the contribution of senior members of society.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme is a significant welfare initiative that enables senior citizens to undertake religious pilgrimages without financial concerns. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to serving elderly citizens by providing free transportation, comfortable accommodation, nutritious meals, and other essential facilities throughout the journey. He added that such programmes strengthen social welfare while allowing senior citizens to fulfil their spiritual aspirations with dignity. The pilgrimage bus departed from Sector 69 with prayers and best wishes from family members, local residents, and public representatives. Through citizen-centric initiatives like the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government and MLA Kulwant Singh continue to promote social welfare, community care, and inclusive development, ensuring that senior citizens across SAS Nagar Mohali receive the respect, support, and opportunities they deserve
