Senior citizens from Ansal API, Sector 114, SAS Nagar Mohali, commenced their spiritual journey on 20 July 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, a flagship welfare initiative of the Punjab Government dedicated to providing elderly citizens with an opportunity to visit revered religious and historical sites free of cost. MLA Kulwant Singh met the pilgrims before their departure, offered his best wishes, and prayed for a safe, peaceful, and spiritually enriching journey.
The Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme has been introduced to ensure that senior citizens can undertake pilgrimages with dignity and comfort, irrespective of their financial circumstances. Through this initiative, the Punjab Government arranges transportation, accommodation, meals, and other essential facilities, allowing elderly devotees to focus entirely on their spiritual experience without worrying about travel expenses.
As part of the pilgrimage, the senior citizens will visit Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum in Amritsar. These destinations represent an important blend of faith, history, and cultural heritage, offering pilgrims an opportunity to seek blessings while reconnecting with Punjab’s rich spiritual and historical legacy.
Before the departure of the bus, MLA Kulwant Singh interacted with the pilgrims and their family members, extending his heartfelt wishes for a comfortable journey. He noted that the welfare of senior citizens remains a priority for the Punjab Government and that initiatives like the Tirath Yatra Scheme demonstrate the government’s commitment to serving those who have contributed significantly to society throughout their lives.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme reflects the vision of the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to ensure that senior citizens can fulfil their spiritual aspirations without financial burden. He said that every pilgrim travelling under the scheme is provided with transportation, accommodation, meals, and all necessary facilities, enabling them to undertake the journey safely and comfortably. He added that the government remains committed to implementing welfare programmes that improve the quality of life and dignity of elderly citizens across the state. The pilgrimage bus departed from Ansal API, Sector 114 amid prayers and best wishes from family members and local residents. Through initiatives like the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government and MLA Kulwant Singh continue to strengthen social welfare by ensuring that senior citizens across SAS Nagar Mohali receive care, respect, and opportunities to undertake meaningful spiritual journeys
