Mohali:
Mohali’s hospitality sector is set for another addition with Sunday Hotels signing an agreement for a new 55-key hotel property in the city. The upcoming development is expected to become operational in late 2027, adding to the growing number of organised hospitality projects coming up across the Mohali-Chandigarh region.
The signing is part of Sunday Hotels’ wider expansion strategy in India, with the brand continuing to enter high-potential business and leisure markets through new hotel partnerships. The company recently announced several new signings across the country, including the 55-key Mohali project.
The new property is expected to strengthen Mohali’s position as an emerging hospitality destination in the Tricity. With the city witnessing rapid growth in commercial activity, residential development, healthcare, education and business travel, demand for quality accommodation has also been increasing.
Mohali has traditionally benefited from its proximity to Chandigarh and its connectivity with the airport, industrial areas and major commercial corridors. The expansion of the city’s business districts and the development of Airport Road and other major urban corridors have further increased its attractiveness for hotel operators.
The arrival of another national hospitality brand is therefore significant for the local market. A new 55-key property will add accommodation capacity while also creating opportunities for restaurants, meetings, events and other hospitality-related services, depending on the final configuration of the hotel.
Sunday Hotels operates in the premium hospitality segment and has been expanding its presence across Indian and international markets. The brand was launched in 2023 and has since added properties in several business and leisure destinations. Its expansion strategy has increasingly focused on partnerships with property owners and developers rather than limiting growth to a small number of locations.
The Mohali agreement comes at a time when the broader Tricity hospitality market is attracting increasing investment. Chandigarh remains a major business and tourism centre, while Mohali has developed into an important commercial and technology hub. The combination of the two markets has created a larger catchment for hotels catering to corporate travellers, families, events and short-stay visitors.
The new property is also expected to benefit from Mohali’s growing connectivity with the surrounding region. The city is located close to Chandigarh International Airport and serves as an important gateway to destinations across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Improved road connectivity has further strengthened its role within the regional economy.
For the hospitality industry, the project represents more than an addition of hotel rooms. New branded properties can contribute to employment generation across hotel operations, food and beverage services, housekeeping, security, administration and other support functions. They can also create additional demand for local suppliers and service providers.
The development is expected to progress over the next two years, with the property targeted for launch towards the end of 2027. Details such as the exact location, design, room configuration and facilities are expected to become clearer as the project moves towards development and construction.
The announcement also adds to the changing hospitality landscape of Mohali. The city already has a mix of business hotels, premium properties, independent establishments and event-focused venues, while several new projects are being planned around its expanding commercial corridors.
With Sunday Hotels adding Mohali to its latest round of expansion, the city is likely to see further competition and choice in the organised hotel segment. For travellers and businesses, increased hotel capacity could provide more options for accommodation and events, while for the local economy, the project adds another investment to the city’s expanding service sector.
The proposed 55-key hotel is consequently expected to become part of Mohali’s broader hospitality growth story, with its targeted 2027 opening adding another branded property to a city that is steadily developing as a business, healthcare, education and leisure destination in the Tricity region.
