A bus carrying senior pilgrims from Safipur village in the Mohali constituency departed for a religious and historical journey on 19 August 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme.
The pilgrimage will take the elderly devotees to several important religious and historical destinations, including Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum. The journey will provide the pilgrims with an opportunity to visit revered religious sites and places of importance to Punjab’s cultural and historical heritage.
The Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme is aimed at facilitating pilgrimage for senior citizens through organised travel arrangements. During the journey, the participating pilgrims will be provided accommodation and meals by the Punjab Government, allowing them to undertake the pilgrimage without having to independently arrange these essential facilities.
The departure from Safipur was marked by enthusiasm among the senior citizens and local residents. The initiative provides elderly residents with an opportunity to travel together and undertake a spiritual journey to some of the most significant religious and historical destinations in Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme is an important welfare initiative for senior citizens. He said that organised travel and essential facilities make religious journeys more comfortable and accessible for elderly residents.
He wished all the pilgrims a safe, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling journey and prayed for their good health and well-being. The pilgrimage bus departed from Safipur village with the participating senior citizens, with travel, accommodation, and meals being provided under the scheme.
