Mohali:

Students, parents and schools across Punjab will now be able to order Punjab School Education Board textbooks online and have them delivered directly to their homes through India Post. The new doorstep delivery facility is aimed at making the purchase of board-prescribed books easier, particularly for families living away from PSEB offices and book distribution centres.

The Punjab School Education Board, Mohali, has entered into an agreement with the Department of Posts, Punjab Circle, to provide doorstep delivery of textbooks for Classes 1 to 12 across the state.

The arrangement builds on PSEB’s Pustak Portal, an online platform introduced earlier this year for the direct purchase of board textbooks. Under the new system, buyers can place their orders online and choose delivery through the postal network instead of travelling to a designated PSEB centre to collect their books.

The facility is expected to be particularly useful for students and parents in rural and remote parts of Punjab. Earlier, books ordered through the online portal had to be collected from designated district offices or other collection centres. Home delivery removes the need for an additional trip and can also reduce travel expenses.

PSEB has made textbooks for Classes 1 to 12 available through the Pustak Portal. The board’s catalogue includes hundreds of titles in Punjabi, Hindi and English mediums, covering the prescribed academic material for different classes and subjects.

Students and parents purchasing books through the portal can also avail themselves of a 15 per cent discount offered by the board. A separate postal charge will apply when the books are delivered to the doorstep.

The Pustak Portal was introduced at the beginning of the 2026-27 academic session as part of PSEB’s effort to make its textbooks more accessible and to provide students with a direct purchasing option.

The board has also established a network of 97 delivery and collection centres across Punjab. Those who do not require home delivery can continue to use these centres to collect their orders.

The new arrangement with India Post adds another option for families who may find it difficult to reach a district-level collection point. India Post’s extensive network gives the textbook distribution system access to a much wider geographical area.

PSEB Chairman Dr Amarpal Singh and other officials were present during the agreement between the education board and the postal department. The initiative is intended to make the textbook ordering process more convenient and reduce dependence on physical visits to board offices.

The board has printed a large volume of textbooks for the current academic session. The availability of books through a central online platform also gives students and parents an opportunity to purchase prescribed material directly rather than relying solely on private booksellers.

PSEB had earlier announced that its online textbook sales would carry a flat 15 per cent discount. The move was designed to make the books more affordable and provide greater transparency in pricing.

The home-delivery facility should further simplify the process. A parent can place an order online, provide the required delivery details and receive the books through the postal network.

There is an important distinction for government-school students. Students studying in government schools will continue to receive textbooks free of cost under the existing government provision. The Pustak Portal’s paid ordering facility is primarily relevant to students, parents and schools purchasing books directly from PSEB.

The initiative also reflects the growing use of digital services in education. Instead of requiring families to visit physical book centres, the board is combining online ordering with India’s established postal delivery network.

For students preparing for the academic year, easier access to prescribed textbooks can be particularly useful when books are required at short notice. It can also help families in smaller towns and villages avoid travelling to Mohali or other district-level centres simply to collect books.

The arrangement is expected to strengthen the distribution network already created by PSEB and give buyers greater flexibility over how they receive their textbooks.

For the Punjab School Education Board, the focus now will be on ensuring that online orders are processed efficiently and that the postal delivery system works smoothly across the state.

The doorstep service marks another step in PSEB’s effort to modernise textbook distribution. With online ordering, discounted prices, collection centres and India Post delivery now available, students and parents have more options for obtaining board-prescribed books for Classes 1 to 12.
