Mohali:
Residents travelling between Mohali’s Phase 1 and Phase 2 are expected to get relief soon, with the Municipal Corporation beginning work on a new road connecting the two areas. Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana has said that the project has been given a 10-day deadline for completion.
The road covers approximately 12,500 square metres and is being constructed at a cost of around Rs 55 lakh. According to the Mayor, the work is being carried out on a strict timeline so that residents do not have to face prolonged inconvenience.
The project is being taken up near the Do Singh area, where road construction had remained pending because of ongoing sewerage and other utility-related work. With the sewerage work now completed and the network stabilised, the Municipal Corporation has been able to move ahead with construction of the road.
The Phase 1–Phase 2 connection is expected to improve movement between the two established residential areas and provide a smoother route for local traffic. The completion of the road could also help reduce pressure on surrounding roads that are currently used by residents travelling between the phases.
The Mayor said the project is part of a larger road infrastructure programme being undertaken by the Mohali Municipal Corporation. Road repair and construction works worth around Rs 89 crore are planned across different parts of the city.
Under the broader programme, roads that require urgent repairs or reconstruction are being identified and prioritised. The civic body is also focusing on strengthening road and drainage infrastructure, particularly at locations that have experienced problems during the monsoon.
The condition of several Mohali roads has come under increased public attention during the rainy season. Waterlogging, damaged road surfaces and stretches affected by utility works have created difficulties for motorists and pedestrians in different parts of the city.
The Municipal Corporation’s latest approach is therefore aimed not only at repairing existing damage but also at improving the underlying road and drainage infrastructure. Better drainage is particularly important during heavy rainfall, when poorly maintained roads can deteriorate quickly.
For the Phase 1–Phase 2 road, the completion deadline will now be closely watched by residents. If the work is completed within the announced 10-day period, the new connection could provide a quicker and more convenient route for daily commuters in the area.
The project also highlights the link between road development and underground utility work. Sewerage and other public-utility projects often require roads to be dug up, making coordination between departments essential to avoid extended delays in restoring road surfaces.
With the sewerage-related work at the site now completed, the Municipal Corporation has moved towards restoring and strengthening the road infrastructure.
The Rs 55-lakh project is relatively small compared with the city’s wider road-development plans, but its local impact could be significant for residents who regularly use the route.
The Municipal Corporation has also indicated that it will continue monitoring vulnerable road locations across Mohali and take up repair and infrastructure works according to priority.
The focus now remains on completing the Phase 1–Phase 2 connection within the 10-day target and ensuring that the finished road provides durable access for residents. If the deadline is met, the project will offer a timely improvement to local connectivity and add to the series of road and infrastructure works currently being undertaken across Mohali.
