Mohali MC Panel Clears 43 Civic Proposals, ₹99 Lakh Shed Project Among Key Works

Mohali: The Finance and Contract Committee of the Mohali Municipal Corporation has approved 43 proposals covering sanitation, waste management, parks, water supply, roads and other civic infrastructure works across the city.

The meeting, chaired by Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana, focused on strengthening basic municipal services and taking up development works in different parts of Mohali. One of the major proposals approved by the committee is the construction of new sheds at the secondary waste-collection point in Jagatpura, with an estimated cost of around Rs 99 lakh.

The proposed sheds are expected to improve the management of waste at the collection facility and provide better infrastructure for handling municipal waste. The decision comes at a time when the corporation is focusing on improving sanitation and tackling garbage-related issues across the city.

Several other sanitation-related works were also taken up during the meeting. These include the procurement of additional JCB machines and tractor-trolleys for use in newly incorporated areas of the municipal corporation.

The committee also approved measures aimed at strengthening mosquito-control operations. The civic body has proposed the procurement of 1,200 litres of Cyphenothrin 5% EC insecticide or adulticide, with the estimated expenditure placed at around Rs 26 lakh including GST.

Parks and green spaces also featured prominently among the approved works. Around Rs 34 lakh has been proposed for the annual maintenance of a special park in Zone 1, while another Rs 57 lakh has been earmarked for the maintenance of general parks in the same zone.

For Zone 2, annual maintenance of general parks has been estimated at around Rs 78 lakh. The committee also considered a Rs 15 lakh proposal for developing green belts in front of St Xavier’s High School in Wards 66 and 71.

Sports infrastructure is another area included in the list of works. Around Rs 38 lakh has been proposed for the construction of badminton courts at Kargil Park, the park near Gurdwara Sahib in Sector 71 and two other parks in the same sector.

The corporation is also looking to improve water-supply infrastructure in different parts of the city. A new tubewell in the Phase 9 industrial area has been proposed at an estimated cost of around Rs 57 lakh.

Other water-related works include installation of dosing pumps at tubewells and underground reservoirs, an air compressor for tubewells in Sector 78 and electrical works at the Phase 6 water treatment plant. Four dewatering sump pumps have also been proposed for the Phase 6 facility.

Sewerage infrastructure has also received attention, with proposals for repairing damaged sewer lines in Phases 5 and 7.

Tree maintenance is another area where the Municipal Corporation plans to strengthen its resources. A proposal worth around Rs 38 lakh has been considered for providing drivers and labour for a large tree-pruning machine for a period of two years. The corporation has also approved the purchase of a tree-pruning machine to support regular maintenance of trees across the city.

Among other civic works, proposals include construction of a footpath outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Sector 76, boundary-wall and water-related works at the Phase 1 booster, beautification of an entry point in Zone 2 and installation of floodlights at parks in Phases 3B1 and 4.

The committee also considered a proposal for preparing a City Logistics Plan for the Municipal Corporation, SAS Nagar. The plan is proposed to be prepared by Guru Ramdas School of Planning at Guru Nanak Dev University at an estimated cost of Rs 35 lakh for a six-month period.

Library facilities have also been included in the civic agenda, with around Rs 9 lakh proposed for supplying books to libraries in Sectors 77, 78, 79 and 80.

The committee also discussed several administrative and maintenance requirements, including stationery, computer and printer maintenance, computer training for staff, furniture for officials’ offices and other day-to-day requirements of the corporation.

Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana said development works were being taken up across all 50 wards without political considerations, with the interests of the city being given priority.

The wide range of proposals reflects the Municipal Corporation’s focus on basic civic services alongside infrastructure and public amenities. From waste management and sanitation to parks, water supply, roads and sports facilities, the approved works cover several areas that directly affect everyday life in Mohali. The implementation of these projects will now be important to ensure that the proposed expenditure translates into visible improvements on the ground. Regular monitoring and timely completion will determine how quickly residents see the benefits of the newly approved works.
