Mohali Dialogues
Residents of Mohali are encouraged to participate in the Census 2027 self-enumeration process and support accurate data collection for future development planning.

The Census 2027 self-enumeration process commenced on April 30, providing residents of Mohali with an opportunity to register their household information online before the formal enumeration process begins. Citizens across SAS Nagar Mohali have been encouraged to actively participate in the exercise and ensure accurate and timely submission of information to support one of the country’s most important data collection initiatives.

The self-enumeration phase is scheduled to be conducted from April 30 to May 14, 2026. During this period, residents can independently submit their family and household details through the official online portal. Following the completion of the self-enumeration stage, appointed census enumerators will conduct field visits from May 15 to June 13, 2026, to verify and collect information from households that have not completed the online process.

The Census plays a vital role in planning and policy formulation at both the national and state levels. Information collected through the Census helps governments understand population trends, housing patterns, educational status, employment conditions, and various social and economic indicators. Accurate data enables better planning of public services, infrastructure projects, welfare programmes, and development initiatives that directly benefit citizens.

Residents of Mohali are being encouraged to make use of the self-enumeration facility, which has been designed to simplify the process and reduce the time required during household visits. Through the online system, families can complete their registration conveniently from their homes by entering the required information on the designated portal. The process is user-friendly and has been developed to ensure ease of participation for citizens.

The self-enumeration initiative is expected to improve efficiency and help streamline the overall Census process. Families that complete their information online will receive a self-enumeration identification number, which can later be shared with census officials during future verification exercises. This helps avoid duplication of effort and facilitates faster completion of the survey process.

An expanded Census survey is also planned for February 2027. Households that have already completed self-enumeration will be able to simplify the verification process by presenting their self-enumeration ID to the visiting officials. Families that do not participate in the online registration process will continue to be covered through traditional door-to-door visits by appointed enumerators, ensuring that every household is included.

The Census exercise is important for both urban and rural communities across Mohali. Accurate participation by residents helps ensure that future Mohali Development projects, public welfare programmes, infrastructure planning, and citizen services are based on reliable data. Information collected during the Census contributes to informed decision-making that benefits communities for years to come.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Census is an important national exercise that helps governments plan better services and development initiatives for citizens. He encouraged all residents of the Mohali constituency to actively participate in the self-enumeration process and provide accurate information to support effective planning and governance.

He further stated that the online system offers a convenient way for families to complete the process and save time during future verification visits. He also appealed to residents to extend full cooperation to census officials and enumerators whenever required. He emphasized that all information provided by citizens will remain confidential and will be used strictly for official Census purposes.

The launch of the self-enumeration process marks an important step towards modernizing data collection and improving citizen participation in governance. As Mohali continues to grow and develop, accurate demographic information will remain essential for planning better infrastructure, strengthening public services, and ensuring inclusive development for all sections of society.
