A special pilgrimage bus under the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme was flagged off from Sector 79, SAS Nagar Mohali, providing senior citizens with an opportunity to undertake a spiritual journey to some of Punjab’s most revered religious and historical sites. The initiative, being implemented by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, aims to make pilgrimage more accessible, comfortable, and affordable for elderly residents.
The pilgrimage includes visits to Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum in Amritsar. These destinations hold immense religious, cultural, and historical significance, allowing pilgrims to experience both spiritual devotion and a deeper understanding of Punjab’s rich heritage.
Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana interacted with the pilgrims before the bus departed and conveyed his best wishes for a safe, comfortable, and spiritually fulfilling journey. He expressed happiness that senior citizens from Mohali were receiving the opportunity to visit these important places without having to worry about travel arrangements or other logistical challenges.
The Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme has been introduced with the objective of ensuring that senior citizens can undertake religious journeys with dignity and convenience. Under the scheme, the Punjab Government has made comprehensive arrangements for the comfort and safety of the pilgrims throughout the journey. Transport, assistance, and other essential facilities are being provided so that participants can focus on their pilgrimage without inconvenience.
The initiative has been widely appreciated by senior citizens, many of whom consider it a meaningful opportunity to visit sacred places that they may not have been able to travel to on their own. Beyond its religious importance, the programme also strengthens social inclusion by ensuring that elderly citizens receive the care and support they deserve while participating in community-oriented welfare initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana said that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is committed to introducing welfare initiatives that directly improve the lives of citizens. He said the Chief Minister’s Pilgrimage Scheme reflects the government’s respect for senior citizens by making spiritual travel easier and more accessible. He added that every effort has been made to ensure that pilgrims receive proper facilities throughout the journey so that they can travel comfortably and return home with cherished memories and spiritual fulfilment. The flagging off of the pilgrimage bus from Sector 79 reflects the continued focus on public welfare and citizen-centric governance in Mohali. Alongside infrastructure development and improved civic services, initiatives that promote social welfare and support senior citizens remain an important part of the Punjab Government’s vision for inclusive development. Through such programmes, Mohali continues to strengthen its commitment to serving residents across all sections of society.
