Jaswant Kaur, wife of MLA Kulwant Singh, participated in a Tiyan celebration organised at Ward No. 4 of Mohali on 17 August 2026, joining International cricketer Gurleen Deol’s mother, eminent social worker Smt. Charanjit Kaur Ji, and social activist Smt. Inderjit Kaur Ji at the cultural programme.
The Tiyan programme brought together women from the local community to celebrate one of Punjab’s cherished cultural traditions. The festival is traditionally associated with the monsoon season and provides an opportunity for women and girls to come together, celebrate, and reconnect with Punjabi customs and heritage.
During the programme, the participants shared the festive spirit and highlighted the importance of keeping traditional celebrations alive. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that Tiyan is much more than a seasonal celebration and represents an important part of Punjab’s cultural heritage. He said that the tradition reflects the affection, happiness, and togetherness associated with daughters and sisters and carries the values of brotherhood and community bonding.
He appreciated the organisers and women participating in the programme for keeping the cultural tradition alive and creating an opportunity for the younger generation to remain connected with Punjab’s heritage.
