Senior citizens from Nagari village in the Mohali constituency embarked on a spiritual journey on 1 August 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, a flagship welfare initiative of the Punjab Government aimed at enabling elderly citizens to undertake pilgrimages with dignity and without financial burden.
Before the departure, the pilgrims were extended best wishes for a safe, comfortable, and spiritually fulfilling journey. Family members and local residents gathered to bid farewell to the senior citizens as they began their visit to some of Punjab’s most revered religious and historical destinations.
As part of the pilgrimage, the devotees will visit Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum in Amritsar. These destinations hold immense religious, cultural, and historical significance, allowing the pilgrims to seek blessings while also experiencing Punjab’s rich heritage.
Under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government provides free transportation, accommodation, meals, and other essential facilities throughout the journey. The initiative has been introduced to ensure that senior citizens can fulfil their spiritual aspirations comfortably and safely, irrespective of their financial circumstances.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government is ensuring that elderly citizens have access to well-organised pilgrimage facilities, enabling them to undertake religious journeys without any inconvenience. He wished all the pilgrims a peaceful and memorable journey and prayed for their safe return. The pilgrimage bus departed from Nagari village amid prayers and warm wishes from local residents. Through initiatives such as the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government and MLA Kulwant Singh continue to strengthen social welfare by supporting senior citizens and promoting inclusive, citizen-focused governance across the Mohali constituency.
