Mohali: The district administration of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar has announced the schedule for the fourth season of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’, with block-level competitions in the district scheduled to begin on September 12.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal and Dera Bassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa released the schedule during a media briefing at the District Administrative Complex in Mohali on Wednesday.

Block, District and State-Level Competitions

According to the schedule, block-level competitions in Mohali district will be held from September 12 to 14, followed by district-level competitions from September 20 to 30.

The state-level competitions are scheduled to take place from October 10 to November 23, bringing together athletes who qualify through the earlier stages.

The multi-level format is designed to provide participants from villages, towns and urban areas with an opportunity to progress from block-level contests to district and state-level competitions.

Wide Range of Sports Included

The fourth edition of the state-wide sporting programme will feature competitions across several disciplines.

The administration said eight sports will be organised at the block level, while 29 disciplines will be contested at the district level and 38 sports will feature at the state level.

The programme is aimed at encouraging participation among people from different age groups and strengthening Punjab’s grassroots sporting culture.

Four Para-Sports Disciplines Added

This season will also feature four para-sports disciplines at the state level. These include:

  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • Powerlifting
  • Wheelchair Basketball

The inclusion of these events will provide athletes with disabilities a dedicated platform to demonstrate their skills and compete at the state level.

Tennis-Ball Cricket Among Key Additions

Tennis-ball cricket is among the notable additions to this year’s programme.

Another important feature is the participation of girls’ teams in cricket competitions at the district and state levels, creating additional opportunities for young female players to participate in organised sporting events.

Participants From Under-14 to 70+ Age Group

The games will cater to a broad range of age categories, beginning with the Under-14 group and extending to participants aged 70 years and above.

The administration has encouraged children, young people, families, senior citizens and sports enthusiasts to participate according to the applicable age and eligibility criteria.

The initiative is intended not only to identify emerging sporting talent but also to encourage people to make regular physical activity part of their lives.

Around 2,800 Participants Already Registered

The district has received an encouraging response ahead of the competitions, with around 2,800 participants having registered so far.

The registration figures indicate growing interest in the fourth edition even before the district-level events get underway.

Interested players have been advised to complete their registration through the designated sports registration system. The administration will also provide offline assistance at stadiums and other designated locations wherever required.

Schools and Institutions Urged to Encourage Participation

The district administration has appealed to schools, colleges, sports associations and other institutions to motivate eligible players to participate in the games.

Officials said wider participation would help create a stronger sporting environment while giving talented players opportunities to compete beyond their local areas.

The initiative also seeks to promote fitness, discipline and an active lifestyle among people across different generations.

Platform for Grassroots Sporting Talent

‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ has developed into a major grassroots sports initiative in Punjab, offering players a structured pathway through block, district and state-level competitions.

The multi-stage competition system gives promising athletes from smaller towns and villages an opportunity to showcase their abilities and advance to higher levels of competition.

Players qualifying through the earlier stages will compete at the state level against athletes from different parts of Punjab.

Mohali Set for September Sporting Action

For Mohali district, the September competitions will mark the beginning of the fourth season’s local phase. With registrations already showing a positive response, the administration is expecting strong participation once the events begin.

Officials have urged eligible residents to take advantage of the opportunity and complete their registrations through the available channels.

With a combination of traditional sporting disciplines, para-sports and tennis-ball cricket, ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan – Season 4’ is set to bring together participants from different age groups and backgrounds on a common sporting platform.

The initiative reflects the Punjab Government’s broader efforts to promote sports at the grassroots level, identify emerging talent and encourage citizens to adopt healthier and more active lifestyles.
