A colourful Teej celebration was organised at Sector 89, Mohali, on 23 August 2026, bringing together local residents to celebrate the traditional Punjabi festival associated with the monsoon season and the cultural traditions of women.
Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, attended the programme as the chief guest. Residents of the area participated in large numbers and joined the celebrations with enthusiasm.
Teej, popularly celebrated in Punjab as Tiyan, has traditionally been an important occasion for women to come together, celebrate their cultural traditions, and enjoy the festive spirit of the monsoon season. The festival is closely associated with Punjabi folk traditions, music, dance, traditional attire, swings, and gatherings centred around daughters and sisters.
The Sector 89 programme reflected this cultural spirit, with residents coming together to enjoy the festivities and celebrate the traditions associated with Tiyan. The large participation of local residents added to the vibrancy of the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann said that festivals such as Tiyan are an important part of Punjab’s cultural heritage and provide an opportunity for communities to celebrate together. She appreciated the residents and organisers for preserving and promoting Punjabi traditions through such programmes.
She also highlighted the importance of keeping traditional celebrations connected with the younger generation so that Punjab’s cultural heritage continues to be passed on to future generations.
The programme was marked by enthusiasm and participation from residents across the area. The celebration provided women and families with an opportunity to enjoy the festive atmosphere while remaining connected to Punjabi customs and traditions. The Sector 89 Tiyan celebration concluded with a spirit of happiness, togetherness, and cultural pride, with residents enjoying the festival and extending their best wishes to one another.
