Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh welcomed the enactment of a new law aimed at preventing the disrespect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, stating that it reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding religious sentiments.
The legislation, passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, has received assent from the Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, and has now come into effect as law. The move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring stricter action against incidents of sacrilege.
Kulwant Singh expressed appreciation for the Punjab Government’s efforts in bringing forward the legislation and ensuring its implementation. He particularly acknowledged the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for taking decisive steps to address the issue.
He stated that the law will help strengthen accountability and act as a deterrent against acts that hurt religious sentiments. “Strict legal measures are essential to maintain harmony and respect for religious institutions,” he said.
The MLA extended his gratitude to the state leadership for prioritising this important matter and reiterated that such steps are crucial for maintaining peace and mutual respect within society.
