A major boost to rural development and social welfare was announced on 3 August 2026, as development grants worth ₹5 crore were distributed among 52 villages in the Mohali constituency for the execution of various public infrastructure and community development works. In addition, 18 economically weaker families received financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each for the construction and repair of their houses.
The grants are expected to support a wide range of development projects in rural areas, including improvements to village infrastructure, public amenities, sanitation, roads, community facilities, and other locally identified priorities. The financial assistance has been provided to village panchayats to accelerate development works and address the needs of residents at the grassroots level.
Alongside the village development grants, financial assistance was extended to 18 beneficiaries who were unable to construct or repair their homes due to financial constraints. Each eligible family received a cheque of ₹2 lakh to help them build or renovate a permanent house, providing much-needed support to improve their living conditions and housing security.
The initiative reflects the Punjab Government’s continued focus on balanced rural development and social welfare. By simultaneously investing in village infrastructure and supporting vulnerable families with housing assistance, the government aims to improve the quality of life across rural communities while ensuring that the benefits of development reach every section of society.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the release of ₹5 crore in development grants for 52 villages and housing assistance for 18 needy families demonstrates the Punjab Government’s commitment to inclusive development. He stated that the grants have been allocated without discrimination to ensure that every village receives the support needed for its development priorities. He added that helping economically weaker families secure a permanent roof over their heads is an important step towards improving social welfare and strengthening rural communities under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
MLA Kulwant Singh also congratulated the beneficiary villages and families, expressing confidence that the funds would contribute to faster development and better civic amenities. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that government welfare schemes and development programmes continue to benefit every eligible resident of the Mohali constituency. The programme concluded with the distribution of grant and housing assistance cheques, reinforcing the Punjab Government’s commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure, improving living standards, and promoting inclusive growth across the state.
