Senior citizens from Bakarpur and Jhurheri villages in the Mohali constituency embarked on a spiritual journey on 4 August 2026 under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, with two buses departing from Bakarpur and one bus from Jhurheri. The departure marked another phase of the Punjab Government’s initiative to enable elderly citizens to undertake pilgrimages with dignity, comfort, and without any financial burden.
A large number of local residents and family members gathered to bid farewell to the pilgrims, creating an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm. The senior citizens expressed their happiness at being able to undertake the religious journey through a government-supported programme that provides them with an opportunity to visit some of Punjab’s most revered spiritual and historical destinations.
As part of the pilgrimage, the devotees will visit Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, and the Partition Museum in Amritsar. These sites hold immense religious, cultural, and historical significance, allowing pilgrims to seek spiritual blessings while learning about Punjab’s rich heritage.
Under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government arranges free transportation, accommodation, meals, and other essential facilities throughout the pilgrimage. The initiative has been designed to ensure that senior citizens can fulfil their long-cherished spiritual aspirations without facing financial or logistical challenges.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens. He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government is making sincere efforts to ensure that elderly citizens have the opportunity to undertake sacred pilgrimages with complete comfort and security. He wished all the pilgrims a safe, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling journey and prayed for their good health and well-being. The pilgrimage buses departed from Bakarpur and Jhurheri amid prayers and warm wishes from local residents. Through initiatives such as the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme, the Punjab Government and MLA Kulwant Singh continue to strengthen public welfare by supporting senior citizens and making religious travel accessible to people across the Mohali constituency.
