Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana initiated storm sewer cleaning work from Madanpur Chowk to Diplast Chowk in SAS Nagar Mohali to improve the drainage of rainwater during the monsoon season. Alongside the cleaning of the storm sewer network, work also began on the construction of table tops at Diplast Chowk to prevent rainwater from entering nearby residential areas and causing inconvenience to local residents.
The initiative has been undertaken as part of the Municipal Corporation’s efforts to strengthen Mohali’s drainage infrastructure and minimise the risk of waterlogging during periods of heavy rainfall. By improving the flow of rainwater through the storm sewer system, the project is expected to reduce flooding on roads and ensure smoother movement of traffic during the monsoon.
During the inspection, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana reviewed the ongoing work and directed the concerned officials to complete the project with quality and within the stipulated timeline. He stressed the importance of preventive measures before and during the rainy season to ensure that residents do not face difficulties due to water accumulation in residential and commercial areas.
The construction of table tops at Diplast Chowk is expected to act as an additional protective measure by preventing rainwater from flowing into nearby houses. The Mayor said that safeguarding residential areas from waterlogging remains a priority and that the Municipal Corporation will continue to undertake similar infrastructure improvements wherever required.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sarabjeet Singh Samana said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to strengthening urban infrastructure and improving civic services across the state. He said that storm sewer cleaning and flood prevention works are essential for making Mohali better prepared for the monsoon season. He assured residents that the Municipal Corporation would continue taking proactive steps to improve drainage systems, reduce waterlogging, and ensure safer and more convenient living conditions for the people of Mohali. The commencement of these works reflects the Municipal Corporation’s continued commitment to improving civic infrastructure and delivering better public services. As SAS Nagar Mohali continues to expand, investments in stormwater management, road infrastructure, and preventive civic works will play an important role in creating a cleaner, safer, and more resilient city.
